Conrad Amsterdam's Background Story

From the Void…

Little is known of the man calling himself Conrad Amsterdam before he stepped off the transport and took his first steps on the agri-world of Sozomen’s Last Stand—little, except for the fact that this man was not the same drunkard who originally set out from the Cadian Sector. Nearing the final phase of an otherwise dismal and disinteresting career, Amsterdam was transferred cross-sector to assist in the fight against the Kasballica Mission. It’s unclear what transpired on that journey—perhaps a drunken brawl, or an unexpected breach in an airlock—but it’s clear the current Conrad Amsterdam is not the first to wear that mantle. Luckily for him, the slow progress of the Administratum and the disinterest of the folk’s of Sozomen’s Last Stand has allowed this deception to go almost entirely unnoticed.

A Respectable Career…

Regardless of his origins, the new Constable of Sozomen’s Northern districts has proved himself a rather reliable Arbitrator. Well versed in both Empirical Law and Planetary Customs, Amsterdam has assisted the leaders of his new home world on numerous occasions, most notably his assistance in an Inquisitional Purge of a heretical cult raiding the radioactive wastelands. Thanks to his position, Amsterdam often worked closely with the planetary government. One such official was Rose du Bois, Chief Overseer of the Labor Union and member of the Governor’s small council. The two quickly grew close and were soon wed. Thanks to her family’s wealth, Rose owned a small estate and vineyard in the Northern District, giving Amsterdam a comfortable place to settle down. For three years, the two lived happily while perfoming their respective duties for the Imperium. Amsterdam had started to believe he could finally stop running and enjoy what little life still had to offer him.

The Hand that Feeds…

Amsterdam was not destined to live the quiet life forever. Thanks to the assistance he provided during Inquisitor Baspherone’s raid on the Raven cultists, Amsterdam’s past soon came to Inquisitor Sand’s attention. Using career records obtained directly from the Cadian Sector, most notably an identification photo, Sand proceeded to blackmail the Arbiter and his wife to enlist their services. Amsterdam’s position as a planetary constable as well as the skills he acquired during his past have made him an invaluable asset for Interrogator Jaxx’s most recent endeavors. Likewise, Rose’s family wealth and political influence has given Inquisitor Sand a strong foothold throughout Sozomen’s Last Stand’s Northern districts. While the surface relationship between Amsterdam and the Inquisition may seem tense, his personal respect for Jaxx and secret enjoyment of the work has instilled in him a loyalty few can match.

A Shadow on the Wall…

Recently, Amsterdam has been traversing the Calixis sector on the personal orders of Interrogator Jaxx investigating a matter deemed utmost important. Through his research, Amsterdam uncovered what he believed to be evidence of a potential warp taint within one of Inquisitor Sand’s acolyte cells. Shadowing the cell’s movements, Amsterdam’s investigation proved his fears correct. He was ordered to apprehend the infected acolytes and bring them in before any harm could be done to the Imperial citizens, or to their lord’s reputation. Having arrived on the planet of Solomon, Amsterdam now awaits his opportunity to strike.
